Kathmandu Durbar Square, once the coronation site for kings, is now a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site. The square features 50 temples and palaces with distinctive red brick architecture and intricate carvings. It consists of three areas: Basantapur Square to the south, the main Durbar Square to the west with ancient temples, and the northeastern section with the former palace entrance. Makhan Street, now a pedestrian street, extends to the northeast.
Key attractions include the Dumu Temple, the oldest structure in the valley, and the Ashoka Binayake Temple with its gilded roof. The Narayan Temple, Shiva-Parvati Temple, and Hanuman Dhoka Palace are also notable. Visitors often climb the temple steps for panoramic city views.
